Onslow is located about 1,300 km from Perth , in the Pilbara region of Western Australia . It has a population of just over 700 and was founded as a wool exporting port in 1883 to service the sheep stations up the Ashburton River . The town was named after Sir Alexander Campbell Onslow, a former Chief Justice of Western Australia.
