Goulburn is located in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, about 190 km South West of Sydney and 690 metres above sea-level. It was named after the under-secretary for War and the Colonies, Henry Goulburn, but the aboriginal name for for Goulburn is Burbong, indicating a special Indigenous cultural area. Goulburn has a population of just over 20,000 and is commonly known as "Australia's first inland city".
