Blackwater is the major town in the coal mining area in central Queensland , Austaralia. Blackwater has a population of 4,913 and the inhabitants have plenty of employment opportunities at either of the six major open cut coal mines that surround the town. It is also close to the Blackdown Tableland National Park and it is believed that Balckwater was named after the Blackwater Creek where the tree roots growing into the creek have been known to colour the water black.
